From the hearth

Welcome to our Chair's blog.

Saturday 30 November 2024 - A home for Christmas: The holiday season is fast approaching but for many it will be another year in temporary accommodation (TA) or made joyless by the threat of yet another unaffordable rent increase or a looming eviction. Yet, there is light. We are raising funds to buy our first homes in the new year. We will prioritise single-parent families with young children who are (or at risk of ending up) in TA. If that's you and you want to become a member, please get in touch. If you want to help, please support our GoFundMe fundraiser: Home should be safe, secure and affordable. Agree? Help us.

Tuesday 28 May 2024 - We recruiting new members! We planning a series of recruitment events. So watch this space or, if you're ready already, join us now. We're the process of registering and hoping to be able to have our first homes before the end of this year. We're so excited!

Friday 3 Mar 2023 - The private rented sector is failing both tenants (who are being evicted in record numbers) and landlords (who are faced with repossession because their tenants can't afford to pay the rent). https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/mar/03/eviction-cases-mount-in-northern-england-and-wales

Monday 17 October 2022 - Average London rent hits record high of £553 per month ... https://www.theguardian.com/money/2022/oct/17/average-london-rent-record-property-shortage-foxtons

Sunday 21 August 2022 - It's broken but we can fix it. We can all agree that shelter is a foundational need that everyone deserves to have met. But so many of us are trapped in an overheated and under regulated private rent sector housing limbo - earning both too much and not enough to access an affordable and stable home. As a Christian, a housing development practitioner and a renter, I have a heart for this problem and I want to do something about it. Do you? Join us.

We've elected our management committee!

We are so thrilled to announce that our management committee is now in place! Congratulations to Nnenna (chair), Iscah (treasurer) and Oma (secretary). We'll be doing a profile of each of them soon so stay tuned.

We are still looking for steering group members. If you'd like to help guide us, get in touch.
